Intellectual Property Rights

Morphic is evaluating the patent portfolio and in the beginning of 2010 the patent portfolio included about 20 inventions, all of which have been granted patents in Sweden and the majority also in other countries and regions. There are also nine inventions for which patents have been granted to foreign Group companies.

Morphic’s intellectual property strategy is aimed at protecting the company’s core technologies and their application. Morphic continually applies for legal protection in different regions for patents, designs and trademarks for its techniques, methods and processes in cases where this is believed to strengthen the company’s protection against infringement.

The company’s key patent is in the Cell Impact business area and covers a method for preventing damaging rebounds during high-speed forming. The patent applies until 2022.

Morphic Technologies AB is the applicant for, and owner of, the main part of the Group’s patents. If the commercial value of an invention is deemed to exceed the cost of patenting the company will apply for protection in Sweden, the United States, Japan and China, and subsequently in Europe (Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom). If the invention is considered important for the subsidiaries’ operations, i.e. if they are expected to have an impact on more than 10 percent of the company’s sales, Morphic will apply for protection also in other markets.
